Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has asked the people to not use Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's name, for business purposes or in self-interest.

"I request everyone, who love and respect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to see that his name is not used for business purposes," he said.

He made the comments at a discussion on Mujibnagar Day, held by the Bangabandhu Foundation, at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of the Central Public Library, Dhaka on Friday, reports UNB.

Food Minister Sadhan Chanda Majumder, also present at the discussion, said: "Those who claim BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was the one who proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh, should be put on trial in a public court."

He also criticized BNP's demands of releasing their chairperson, Khaleda Zia, from jail. "Her case is not pending; she has been sentenced by the court itself."

Meanwhile, State Minister for Public Administration, Farhad Hossain, highlighted the role of the Mujibnagar government - which was formed during the Liberation War, on April 17 in 1971

"The Liberation War started after the Mujibnagar government took oath," he said.

"Those who do not observe the Mujibnagar Day, cannot be pro-Liberation War," Farhad added.

The discussion was attended by members of different sections of ruling Awami League party.
