The incident happened on Friday night around 1am

A three-member probe committee was formed on Saturday to investigate several Pohela Boishakh stalls being set on fire and vandalized at Dhaka University (DU).

The incident happened on Friday night around 1am. Bangladesh Chhatra League activists are reportedly implicated in the incident because of an internal feud.

At least 13 refrigerators had been vandalized. Overall, a loss of around TK1 crore had incurred in that incident, claimed Azam Bin Tarek, head of operation and brand marketing of Akij Food and Beverage Limited.

According to witnesses, the activists set fire to several stalls, a concert stage, and vandalized promotional placards and banners sponsored by Mojo and Frutika.

DU Assistant Proctor Dr Mohammad Mainul Karim was made the head of the probe body. Two more assistant proctors are on the team.

Confirming the matter yesterday, DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said: "We have formed a three-member body to investigate the incident at Mall Chattar. The committee has to submit the report as soon as possible."

On Saturday, the authorities cancelled the permission for a concert due to unavoidable circumstances.
