Another student has been killed after a bus ran over him in Dhaka’s Demra area on Friday.

The incident took place at the Mostan Majhi intersection in Demra, around 12:30pm.

The deceased, Taskin Iram, 19, was a student of Golam Mostofa College.

He was on his bicycle when a bus of Ramzan Paribahan bus ran over him, killing him on the spot, locals said.

Police later recovered his body and sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Assistant Commissioner Md Rabiul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Demra Zone said the bus driver had been detained, and the bus impounded.

As the news of Taskin’s accident spread, locals and students blockaded the streets.

Police were still trying to convince the protesters to leave the streets when this report was filed at 5pm on Friday.

Taskin’s death follows another accident, caused by reckless driving, in which A Suprovat Paribahan bus ran over Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury in front of Jamuna Future Park in Kuril, Dhaka on March 19, killing him on the spot.
