RAB says the deceased are members of a car theft ring
Two suspected robbers have been killed in a reported gunfight with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka.
The incident took place in Tejgaon around 4am on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Naim, 35; and Jamal, 38.
From the spot, RAB recovered: multiple guns, several bullets, machetes, mobile phones, an axe, and a stolen car.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune RAB 2 Company Commander Mohiuddin Faruque said: "We arrested two suspected robbers, Hanif and Liton, in Gazipur on Thursday. During interrogation, they produced information about a robbery gang and inter-district car theft ring that were going to deliver a stolen car in Dhaka's Tejgaon on Friday morning.
"Responding to that, we set up a check-post in the delivery area. When confronted with the robbers at the check-post, we asked them to come out of the vehicle so that we could perform a search. However, they opened fire and we fired back in self-defence."
"The two were killed in the process. The bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctors declared them dead. Now they are at the DMCH morgue for autopsy. The deceased had multiple cases filed against them in several police stations," he added.
