Landowner SMHI Faruk and owner of the illegal portion of the FR Tower have been arrested
Landowner SMHI Faruk and illegal portion owner Tasvir Ul Islam have been arrested in the case over FR Tower fire, but developer Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul remains elusive.
The question arises: is Liakat absconding or has he fled the country in fear of getting arrested?
Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of police sources say Liaquat is currently in Singapore. To avoid getting arrested, Liaquat reportedly fled to Singapore the day after the devastating fire broke out at Banani's FR Tower on Thursday.
The fire claimed 26 lives, and injured many more.
Banani police outpost Sub-Inspector Milton Datta filed a case accusing Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan, BNP leader Tasvir Ul Islam and SMHI Faruque over the deaths in the fire on Saturday night.
DB arrested 65-year-old Faruk from Bashundhara residential area around 1:45am on Sunday. Previously, they arrested Tasvir from his home in Baridhara around 10:45pm on Saturday.
It took more than six hours and the combined efforts of Dhaka Fire Service, Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Red Crescent, and other volunteers to douse the fire at FR Tower.
