A video has shown people trying to escape the smoke on a floor of the Banani FR Tower
A woman has taken to Facebook to ask for help with rescuing the people trapped inside the burning FR Tower, in Banani area of Dhaka.
A video, posted by Shajuti Swarna around 2pm Thursday, shows an office room filled with heavy smoke; as well as a group of panicked, confused people trying to escape, covering their mouths with clothing.
A voice can be heard saying: "Tell them to send us stairs. If they do not, we will die trapped inside, choking from the smoke."
Although the identity of the person who was talking could not be determined, it appeared from the comments that it could be the individual who had posted the video. It could not be deduced on which floor they were waiting.
Some of them advised those still inside to lie on the ground, or climb up the stairs up to the roof where helicopters can come to their rescue.
A fire broke out at FR Tower around 12:52pm on Thursday, Dhaka Fire Service Central Control Room Duty officer Ataur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
Until this report was filed, 17 fire-fighting units of Dhaka Fire Service, three helicopters of the Bangladesh Air Force, and teams of Bangladesh Navy and Army have been trying to douse the fire.
Although no casualties have been reported yet, several people have been reported sustaining injuries while trying to jump from the building seeking safety.
Others have been reported waiting on the rooftop for the helicopters to rescue them, while few others were seen waving from the windows, to the public, pleading for help.
