The people of Bangladesh need to raise their collective awareness regarding treating women with respect, says Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed.
"This government has come a long way to empowering women in the last 10 years, but we still need to bring further changes in our society's mentality towards women," the minister said at a discussion organized by the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) at the PKSF auditorium on Sunday, on the occasion of International Women's Day 2019,.
"Our prime minister, speaker, education minister, and opposition leader - all are women," Nuruzzaman said. "The current government has appointed women to important administrative posts, to further women empowerment."
The government needs to uphold educating women and initiating them in the cultural scene, the minister said.
"Our girls are ahead of boys in education, and women are continuously winning victories for us in sports," he said. "For all these reasons, we need to treat women with the respect they deserve."
Presided over by PKSF Chairman Dr Kholiquzzaman, the discussion was also addressed by PKSF Managing Director Md Abdul Karim, General Manager AKM Nuruzzaman, and member Dr Pratima Pal.
