Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, heralding nationwide programs on the occasion of his 99th birth anniversary.
The premier paid homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of the leader in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi, on Sunday morning.
After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect for the memory of the Father of the Nation.
Cabinet members, Sheikh Hasina's advisers, parliament members and senior leaders of the Bangladesh Awami League were present there.
Later, flanked by the central party leaders of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina laid another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party, as the president of the Awami League.
Also present on the occasion were: the prime minister’s Advisor HT Imam, Awami League Advisory Council Members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Abdul Matin Khashru and Dr Abdur Razzaque, Acting General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Joint Secretary Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Enamul Haque Shamim, B M Mozemmel Haque, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, Relief and Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and other leaders of the party.
Later, leaders of the associate bodies of the Awami League and other socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu as well.
The birthday of Bangabandhu is being observed across the country today as National Children’s Day.
The theme of this year’s birthday of Bangabandhu and National Children’s Day is “Bangabandhu’s birthday: Rinse the lives of children with colour.”
