In the workshop, discussions were also made on the Urban Resilience Project
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said the city corporation has taken initiatives to ensure the safety of all citizens across the capital.
He made the statement at a day-long workshop held at the Lakeshore Hotel in Dhaka, on Thursday.
He said: “We have taken initiatives to implement various projects to build a safe Dhaka.”
The program was jointly organized by the World Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Seeds, and DNCC.
“I will work towards building a city free from irregularities and corruption, while also making it a beautiful one,” the mayor said.
In the workshop, discussions were also made on the Urban Resilience Project, which has an objective to strengthen the capacity of government agencies to respond to emergency events and to strengthen systems to reduce the vulnerability of future building construction in Dhaka.
“We cannot prevent natural disasters like cyclones, earthquakes, or floods. But we all can help reduce the severity of these disasters, with proper disaster management and mitigation awareness,” Atiqul said.
In this regard, the mayor urged all CEOs of government and non-government organizations to hold regular disaster management workshops for employees; to enhance their knowledge.
