A Dhaka customs house preventive team has detained two Chinese nationals with 48 gold bars—weighing about 5.56 kilograms—at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The estimated market price of the seized gold is about Tk2.79 crore.
The detainees are Ding Shousheng, 35, from Henan; and Chen Jifa, 29, from Hubei, of China.
Dhaka Airport Custom House Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
They arrived at the Dhaka airport at 9am on an Air Arabia flight.
A case has been filed against the two detainees for charges under the Customs Act, 1969 and the Special Powers Act, 1974.
Both of them have been handed over to the Airport police station.
