University of Dhaka the new champion and Eastern University the runner-up among 31 participating universities of the national competition
The 3rd Bangladesh Qualifying Round of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2019 has been held. The competition took place February 21-23.
University of Dhaka emerged as the new champion and Eastern University became the runner-up of the national round of Jessup Bangladesh 2019 among the 31 total participating universities.
The Session was chaired by Adviser at the Department of Law at IUB and President of AsianSIL Bangladesh Prof Borhan Uddin Khan.
Judges of the final round – Honorable Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, Honorable Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Honorable Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Mamoon Rahman – graced the closing ceremony of the competition held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on February 23.
In the closing session, the guests highly appreciated the noticeable participation of female law students in the competition and applauded the equal representation of women.
There were awards given in several categories.
Psymhe Wadud from University of Dhaka bagged the Best Mooter award for her excellent performance. University of Dhaka also received the Best Memorial award.
BRAC University and Jagannath University were respectively awarded the Second Best Memorial and Third Best Memorial award. North East University and Northern University were jointly recognized with the Spirit of the Jessup award.
Jahangirnagar University was announced the Best New Team.
The two finalist teams of the Bangladesh qualifying round will be participating in the international round of the 60th Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition to be held in Washington, DC.
The Jessup Moot Court Competition is one of the most renowned competitions for law students, gathering teams from more than 100 countries in the international round. The Jessup Bangladesh Competition is the national round of the international competition, which is the fifth largest qualifying round.
