The DC of Lalbagh Police said a charge sheet will be submitted against those found to be negligent

On Friday, two separate cases were filed in connection with the deadly fire that broke out in the Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka on Wednesday night.

On behalf of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain recorded an unnatural death (UD) case with Chawkbazar Police Station.

In addition, Md Asif Hossain, a local resident, filed another case with the same police station against two people and 10-12 unknown individuals, Chawkbazar police station Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim confirmed.

In his case statement, Asif said the inferno broke out due to the negligence of the building owner and the tenants of the house. He demanded compensation for the loss of lives and damage to properties.

The devastating fire broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other adjacent buildings in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night, leaving 67 people killed and more than 50 others injured.

The authorities concerned have so far identified and handed over 46 fire victims’ bodies to their families, officials said.
