Three members of the same family, including a four-year-old child, never made it home after going out to get medicine for their bed-ridden parents.

“My brothers and nephew were on their way home to Lalbagh from Chawkbazar. They went out to get medicine for our sick parents,” said a bereaved middle-aged woman named Jorina, sitting in front of the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Jorina lost her brothers and her nephew in the Chawkbazar fire.

“Now they are dead. How will my parents get their medicine now?” she said, as she wailed.

Jorina’s brothers Mohammad Ali and Apu Raihan along with her four-year-old nephew went out together. The trio never made it back home.

The brothers had lived in Lalbagh’s Rahamatganj area. Mohammand Ali owned a cosmetics shop in Chawkbazar.

Ali’s wife is seven months pregnant. Apu left behind a child of only four months.

Jorina, who lives at Chawkbazar, said that her brothers were on their way home, with medicine for their parents, after closing the shop.

Their mother and father are gravely ill.
