Update : 14 Feb 2019, 12:46 PM

Two people, in separate incidents, have been crushed under the wheels of a train in Joar Shahara rail crossing area near Moghbazar on Thursday.

The first incident took place around 9am when an elderly man was crushed under the wheels of a train.

His identity is yet to be confirmed.

The other deceased has been identified as Arafat Hossain, 40, a resident of Uttara, Dhaka. He was crushed by a train travelling to Mymensingh from Dhaka—the Mohua Commuter Train—around 9:30am near the same area.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Dhaka Railway Police Airport station in charge Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam said: "Two people have died in two separate incidents, although both of them happened near the Joar Shahara rail crossing area.

"The identity of the elderly man who died early this morning is yet to be confirmed. However, we were able to identify the person who died in the later incident. He had been talking on the phone. Despite the gateman trying to warn him [of the oncoming train], several times, with his whistle, he did not notice."

"We have informed his family. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation," he added.
