A rally came out from Rajarbagh Police Lines to celebrate the day
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Javed Patwary instructed police officials to be pleasant when dealing with people at police stations.
He made the statement after inaugurating a rally on the occasion of the 44th foundation anniversary of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), around 3pm on Wednesday.
He said: “A person goes to a police station when he-she becomes helpless. Maybe you cannot solve all their problems. But listen to them carefully; explain what to do; behave well. This will help them to rely on us to get the desired service when they come to us.”
“If citizens get easy access to police stations, they will be satisfied with the police. This will increase the trust and confidence of the people on us,” the IGP added.
He also said: “The DMP is the mirror of the Bangladesh Police. Just as human reflections are seen in a mirror, the DMP reflects the whole police service in the country.”
IGP Javed further said: “I have seen numerous successes of the DMP. They conducted many brave operations. Today, people have hailed the police for DMP’s good work.
“It impossible for the police to provide services to the people, alone, the people must come forward along with us. If they help the police with information about criminals, the quality of service will improve.”
At the program, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said: “We have been able to form a people-friendly police in establishing the rule of law. As a result, the crime level in Dhaka is very low.
“We have kept the citizens safe by taking strict measures against militancy and drugs. We have also formed a women and children friendly police service.”
He also said: “We will win the hearts of people by our pleasant behaviour which is also our commitment on this 44th founding anniversary. “
DMP members, including Detective Branch, Bomb Disposal Unit. SWAT, Cyber Crime Unit, K-9 unit (Dog Squad), Counter Terrorism Unit, were present at the program, among others.
