Preparations for the month-long book fair have already begun at the Bangla Academy premises and at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Visiting the locations, this correspondent found that frames for the set up of stalls were in process of being put up.
A total 450 publication houses are expected to take part in the fair. Stalls will be allocated through lottery on January 21.
“The construction work at the Bangla Academy premises began in late December, while the building of frames for the stalls began at Suhrawardy Udyan from Jan 4,” said Mohammad Ali, who is leading the workers at Bangla Academy.
Frames for about 25 of the stalls have so far been completed.
Bangla Academy Director and Book Fair Organizing Committee Member Secretary Jalal Ahmed said this year’s fair is being organized under the theme: “Bijoy: 1952 theke 1971 and noboporjay”.
“The main theme has been focusing on 50 years of independence. Seminars and discussions on the theme will be organized, where researchers, freedom fighters, and architects of the 1971 Liberation War will discuss various topics,” he added.
