Workers also demanded the payment of their outstanding dues
Read-made garment (RMG) industry workers have blocked a road in Dhaka’s Mirpur area, demanding a change to their new wage structure.
The workers, who are demonstrating in different areas of Dhaka and Savar for a fourth consecutive day, took to the streets again on Wednesday.
Workers of a 22-storey factory, named Standar Group, blocked one side of Kalshi Road demanding a change to their new wage structure; and the payment of their outstanding dues.
Confirming the matter, Mirpur Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahen Shah Mahmud told the Dhaka Tribune: “Vehicles are moving on the other side of the road. The workers are staging their protest peacefully.
“However, police are deployed in the area to prevent untoward situations.”
Meanwhile, at least 30 people were injured in separate clashes between RMG industry workers and police in Savar in the morning.
Workers of several garment factories have been protesting in Savar, and different parts of Dhaka, for the last three days; they are demanding the discrepancies of the newly-announced wage structure be removed.
