Apparel workers took to the streets in Uttara and Mirpur, demanding a change in the wage structure
Garment workers have taken to the streets of Dhaka, for a third consecutive day, demanding a change in the new wage structure.
Workers took the streets at Mirpur's Kalshi, Rokeya Sarani, and Pallabi areas and tried to block the roads on Tuesday morning.
A chase and counter-chase ensued when police tried to disperse the protesters.
Kafrul police station Officer-in-Charge Syed Mamun Mostafa confirmed the incident the Dhaka Tribune.
Garment workers have also blocked Airport Road, in Uttara's Abdullahpur area, for a third consecutive day.
Apparel workers from some garment factories in Uttara gathered on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway around 9am. They invited fellow workers from other factories to join their protest.
The protesters then proceeded to block Airport Road around noon.
Afterward, police chased them to clear the road.
Till the filing of this report, one side of both Airport Road and Kalshi Road remain blocked.
Previously, garment workers blocked Airport Road, on Sunday and Monday. Monday's demonstration resulted in large amounts of traffic, plus the torching of a bus and several vehicles.
Demonstrations and protests also took place in Gazipur and Savar on Monday. Clashes in Gazipur resulted in 14 people—including members of law enforcement agencies—being injured.
