It is primarily suspected that he suffered a heart attack
A man died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday after he was arrested by the Jatrabari police.
Jamal Uddin Ripon, 45, was sick before he was arrested by police on multiple charges, police said.
The Dhaka Tribune tried to contact the police regarding the charges filed against him but the police was unreachable at the filing of this report.
He fell ill right after the police arrested him from the Sheikhdi Bazar area at 11 pm on Saturday.
The police soon took him to the local hospital. Later, he was transferred to DMCH where the duty doctor announced him dead at midnight.
He was then taken to Square Hospitals when his family members raised objections regarding his death.
Afterwards, he was taken back to DMCH for autopsy.
It is primarily suspected that he suffered a heart attack that led to his death, but the cause can be confirmed after the autopsy, UNB reported.
Jatrabari police station OC Kazi Wajed Ali said: “Ripon was accused of multiple cases filed with Jatrabari Thana. He became sick as soon as the police arrested him from the Kajla Sheikhdi Bazar of Jatrabari area at night. He was soon taken to the hospital and found dead.
The police officer further informed that the arrestee was suffering from many medical conditions, including high blood pressure.
