Nirapad Sarak Chai (NiSCha), a volunteer platform working for road safety observed its 25th anniversary, and to mark the event, organized a seminar titled, "25 years of NiSCha: Perspective of Road Accident" at the National Press Club on Saturday.
Founder and President of the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed attended the event as the chief guest.
He emphasized on uplifting the railway infrastructure across the country to reduce the recurrent road accidents as railway is safer than road transportation.
Speaking at the seminar, Chairman of NiSCha Ilias Kanchan stated that the organization had been carrying out rigorous campaigns to make the roads safe for everyone but the situation has not improved due to negligent drivers, pedestrians, law enforcing agencies and other stakeholders.
The recent student protest after the tragic accident of two teenage students had pressured the government to realize the needto implement more lenient traffic laws, he added.
However, he placed more emphasis on the awareness of the general people to make the execution of these laws successful.
Among others, Accident Research Institute Director Prof Mizanur Rahman, Additional Secretary of Road, Transport and Bridges Ministry Belayet Hossain, also spoke at the seminar.
NiSCha is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring safe roads throughout the country. It comprises of around 15,000 members over 70 branches countrywide.
