Shahidul’s lawyers are still waiting for the final decision from the court on his bail petition
On the 100th day of Shahidul Alam’s imprisonment on Tuesday, demonstrators gathered at Shahbag, press club and other places to demand his release.
A photo circulating on social media earlier today shows a poster of Shahidul Alam’s iconic photo with a clenched fist (a sign of solidarity) hanging from the rooftop of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). The poster was also seen hanging from a foot-over bridge at Farmgate.
People also took to social media to demand his immediate and unconditional release. Social media users changed their profile pictures and used the hash tags “#FreeShahidulAlam”,“#FreeShahidul”,“#WeWantJustice” and “#100UnjustifiedDaysInPrison.”
On August 5, internationally-acclaimed photojournalist Shahidul Alam was picked up by law enforcement officials from his Dhanmondi flat, hours after he had given an interview on the student protests for road safety in Bangladesh to Doha-based television channel Al Jazeera.
