He was named as the main accused in the case
A case has been filed against Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee board member Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, for seeking Tk1 crore of extortion money, in Ashulia, Savar.
A man named Mohammad Ali, from Manikganj district, filed the case against him at Ashulia police station in the early hours of Tuesday.
Zafrullah Chowdhury was named as the main accused in the case. Four others - three named and another unidentified - were also made accused.
According to sources and Ali, a few years ago, three people, including Ali, bought a 4.24 acre plot of land in Mouza Pathalia. The three erected barbed wire fences, planted trees, and built tin-shed houses.
However, Zafrullah's men had been planning to occupy Ali’s land for a while. They even forced the three to sell the land at a nominal price. Ali has filed several GDs because of this with Ashulia police station.
Zafrullah's men pressured him, again, to sell the land when he went to visit the site on Sunday. When Ali refused, the men demanded Tk1 crore from him.
When Ali refused to give them the money, they wrecked the whole site, including the fence, signboard, and main gate. Later, Ali filed a case with the police regarding the matter.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Ashulia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Haque Dipu said: "Mohammad Ali has filed the extortion case with us. We will take the necessary actions after investigating the matter,"
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was also accused in a treason case for his remarks about the army chief made on a television talk-show, on Somoy TV, on October 9. A GD was filed against him, on October 11, regarding the matter.
