'Dhaka will be quite empty on the occasion of Eid. There is no specific threat, but we are always working to ensure security'
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has said that changes made to the traffic management system will become more visible after Eid.
He made the statement after inspecting security measures for the main Eid prayers at the High Court on Monday.
The DMP Commissioner said: “There have already been changes to the traffic management system of Dhaka city. They were positive changes. Hopefully, the changes will be more visible after Eid.”
According to DMP sources, the DMP traffic division conducted drives in various parts of Dhaka on August 19. A total 3,549 cases were filed for traffic law violations during the drives, while Tk22,62,650 in fines was collected.
In addition, cases were filed against 1,046 motorcycles riders, and 228 motorcycles were seized for violating traffic laws.
Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said there will be five layers security in Dhaka during Eid. A total 14 thousand police officers will be deployed to maintain security.
“Dhaka will be quite empty on the occasion of Eid. There is no specific threat, but we are always working to ensure security. Police will patrol throughout the city,” the commissioner added.
Bags, weapons, and sticks will be disallowed at the Eidgah. Umbrellas may be brought if it rains, and prayer mats will be allowed but will also be searched.
The DMP Commissioner further said that there will be check posts at the main and outer gate of the Eidgah, as well as one inside.
He also urged citizens to help police in maintaining law and order.
