Road crash kills worker near PM’s office

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 40, from Sherpur

One worker has been killed and another injured in a road crash near the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka.

The workers were repairing a road divider in the area. This incident occurred on early hours of Saturday.

The deceased is Shafiqul Islam, 40, from Tarakandi village of Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district, and the injured is Ismail Hossain, 40, from the same village.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Tejgaon police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Ali said: "Those two workers were renovating the road dividers, when around 3am in the morning, a speeding microbus ran them over, severely injuring the duo. 

“They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the on-duty doctor declared Shafiqul dead on arrival around 4:45am, while critically injured victim Ismail is still undergoing treatment.”

ASI Mohammad Ali added that the microbus has been seized, but the driver is on the run from the law.

Shafiqul’s body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
