She was picked up from in front of her dorm
A Dhaka University (DU) student has been interrogated by the Detective Branch (DB) of police after being picked up in the evening, confirmed DU Proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani.
Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi, a master’s student of the Department of Sociology and a quota reform movement activist, was picked up around 7pm Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses claimed Emi was drinking tea at a tea stall in front of Shamsunnahar Hall with one of her friends, when some plainclothes DB officials introduced themselves and asked her to go to their microbus to talk to a high official of the agency. Emi's friend also went with her towards the microbus. Suddenly, two white microbuses came and Emi was taken away, leaving her friend behind, while some DB officials held their ID cards up to prevent a reaction.
Sources said Emi was taken to DB headquarters, and that law enforces grilled her hoping to find anything incriminating.
Emi is a former general secretary of Slogan 71, a pro-ruling party cultural organization.
The DU proctor also said: "DB only took her to interrogate her about her possible involvement in cyber crimes. She was handed over to university authorities a few hours later."
