The authorities have closed the university after the attack until further notice
A group of around 25 men on motorbikes assaulted students of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) and vandalized the campus near Farmgate in Dhaka on Sunday noon.
According to eyewitnesses, the assaulters were chanting pro-Awami League slogans during and after the attack.
The students claimed the attackers were members of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Tejgaon College unit.
Earlier, a large group of UAP students joined a procession of school students, who were demonstrating for safer roads, in the Farmgate area.
Jamilur Raza Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of the university, told the Dhaka Tribune that the attackers shattered some glass windows.
“The attackers have severely beaten a female student up. Proctor Professor Abu Sayeed M Ahmed was also injured during the attack,” he said.
A teacher from the physics department also sustained minor injuries when some pieces of shattered glasses fell on his body.
The university authorities shut down all academic activities of the university after the attack and will remain so until further notice.
