AL candidate wins Dhaka ward 24 by-poll

The ward falls under Dhaka South City  Corporation

Ruling Awami League’s candidate Mokaddes Hossain Jahid was unofficially elected the new councilor of the Dhaka 24 ward in the by election on Monday. 

Mokaddes bagged 7,261 votes while his rival candidate Delwar Hossain of same party secured 6,318 votes.

Voting started at 8am amid tight security and continued until 4pm without any break at 17 polling stations. 

The ward has 83,865 voters. It falls under the Dhaka South City Corporation.

The seat fell vacant following the death of its counselor Mosharof Hossain on May 24, father of Mokaddes.

Md Yousuf-Ur-Rahman, assistant returning officer of the polls, told Dhaka Tribune: “Voters were able exercise their rights peacefully.”
