Six journalists from print and electronic media have been awarded for their reports on violence and sexual harassment against women and their prevention.
Women Journalist Network, Bangladesh (WJNB) and Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) jointly honoured them during a function at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday.
SATV Senior reporter Farzana Shova, Somoy TV Staff Reporter Shakila Sharmin, and News24’s Kurigram Correspondent Humayun Kabir Surjo were given awards for their reports on “sexual harassment and prevention on public transport.”
Daily Jugantor’s Rita Voumik from received a print media award for her report on “preventing harassment.”
Daily Janakantha Staff Reporter Wazed Hira got first prize for the report on “preventing child marriage” and New Age’s Comilla Correspondent Yasmin Rima was the runner-up.
The women and children affairs minister, Meher Afroze, was the chief guest at the program, which was also addressed by the Press Club’s General Secretary Farida Yasmin.
The managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Abul Kalam Azad, NUS Executive Director Afroza Parvin, and WJNB Secretary General Angur Nahar Monty were also present at the ceremony, among others.
