ASM Kamrul Ahsan, senior security officer of DU, filed a general diary (GD) at Shahbagh police station in the afternoon over the matter, seeking security measures for the proctor and assistant proctors.
According the GD, a 28-second audio message was sent to the mobile phone of Assistant Proctor Litan Kumar Saha from an unknown number – 000000000 – around 12:11pm.
A man, claiming to be calling from the Bangladesh Army headquarters, issued the death threat in the audio clip.
The incident have taken place at a time when the university is going through a turbulent situation centring the quota reform movement of the students and Bangladesh Chhatra League’s attacks on their demonstrations.
Over the past two days, the students also called for the resignation of Proctor Rabbani and DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman over the university authorities’ inaction following the attacks.
The proctor told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have filed the GD seeking security from the law enforcement officials as we are working to ensure safety of the university teachers and students.”
