Md Shariful Islam Bhuiyan went missing in similar fashion during Ramandan. He was later found in Barisal.
The wife of the general manager of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) reported to the police that her husband has been missing for the last five days, for the second time in the last two months.
Laila Yasmin, wife of BSCIS GM Md Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, lodged a general diary with the Paltan police station on July 12 in this regard.
In the GD, Laila wrote that her husband Shariful, 58, who was diagnosed as clinically depressed earlier, remained traceless after going out of their Shantinagar residence, supposedly to see a doctor at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, at 11am on July 11.
Family members said Shariful had also been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Laila, also a deputy manager of BSCIC, mentioned in the GD that she learned from the DMCH doctor’s assistant that her husband did not show up for the pre-scheduled appointment. Later she contacted Shariful’s office, where on-duty staff informed her that he did not come to work either.
The residence's security guards, after reviewing CCTV footage, said Shariful was wearing a T-shirt and lungi when leaving the building. Shariful’s wife wrote in the GD that he left his mobile phone and wallet in the house.
Paltan police station's Officer-in-Charge Md Mahmudul Haq said: “Shariful is suffering from mental depression. Since the wedding of his daughter in January and her relocation to the US, he has been depressed. Earlier, he went missing during Ramadan. Later, he was found from Barisal's Kirtonkhola area.”
“Shariful's photo and details have already been sent to all the police stations. Police are doing everything to find him,” the OC also said.
He added they are searching for Shariful in every possible place and all the police stations have been informed.
