Three people, including a child, were killed and at least 25 others injured after a bus and a human haulier collided head-on in the Beribadh area of Mirpur in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The incident took place near Birulia Bridge around 8am, according to witnesses and police.
The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam, 60, Tauhidul Islam, 8, and Ershad, 28.
Officer-in-Charge of Rupnagar police station Sheikh Mohammad Shah Alam confirmed the matter by saying that the death of three people took place through the accident.
Preparations are underway for filing a case on account of the accident.
The police and local residents reported that on Tuesday morning a bus carrying workers of Anwesha Garments of Ashulia started towards the factory through the Beribadh Road from Mirpur. When it reached the Birulia Bridge, it collided with the human haulier coming from Savar.
Ten of the small vehicle’s passengers were seriously injured. They and 15 other bus passengers who were also injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and other hospitals in the area.
Three of the injured died while under treatment at DMCH.
In protest against the incident, local residents blockaded the C&B Mirpur Road in Ashulia’s Kumkumari area in the afternoon. They withdrew the blockade two hours after police intervened.
