The second national capacity development workshop, titled “Building institution capacity for e-government data analysis and evidence-based decision-making to support the Sustainable Development Goals,” has been held in Dhaka.

The Access to Information Programme (a2i) of the Prime Minister’s Office and the United Nation Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) jointly organized the two-day workshop at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka’s Agargaon. The workshop ended on Wednesday.

A2i and UNDESA are jointly implementing a project titled “Evidence-based e-government Policies for Advancing Governmental Services Delivery and Accountability in support of the sustainable Development Goals (ICT4SDG).” The project focuses on the integration of information communication technology (ICT) to achieve the SDGs. It covers four SDGs and 10 targets.

Senior officials of different ministries participated in the workshop, with Md Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs, present as the chief guest. Vincenzo Aquaro, chief of the Digital Government branch of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) at UNDESA, was also in attendance as special guest.

Speakers said the workshop’s main objective was to explore how ICT tools, techniques, processes and policies can support evidence-based decision-making in the process of implementing SDGs, and they encouraged the collection of data on SDG progress indicators to help implement the SDGs effectively.

The development of ICT skills and the creation of a roadmap to achieve the SDGs were among the discussion topics.
