He says there is no scope for BNP to reject this as the hospital is one of the best

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for necessary medical checkup if her party wants.

“Khaleda Zia will be taken to the CHM for necessary medical checkups if BNP does not want her treated at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMU) Hospital,” he told reporters at his Secretariat office on Tuesday.

“We have prepared a proposal to take her to the CMH and there is no scope for them to reject this as the hospital is one of the best,” Kamal said.

The minister continued: “I will request Khaleda Zia’s personal and trusted physicians to be present at the time of her physical examinations.”

He added that he could not understand why Khaleda does not want to go BSMMU Hospital as it was a well-equipped and modern hospital.

His remarks came after a petition was filed over sending the BNP chief to the United Hospital in Gulshan for health checkups.

A three-member BNP delegation, led by Khaleda’s younger brother Shamim Iskander, on Tuesday submitted the petition after meeting the home minister at his office.

Kamal said: “The government has taken the highest effort for Khaleda Zia’s physical examination in accordance with the jail code and she will be treated as per the advice of the civil surgeon and the prison’s physicians.”
