Heavy rain and thunderstorm on Thursday morning inconvenienced the morning routine of Dhaka residents as most roads were quickly submerged by the 81mm rainfall.

However, the rain was a reprieve from the wearisome heat this week.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 81mm rainfall in just three hours from 6am to 9am. It also predicted the rainfall to continue over the next two days.

Vehicles were seen cruising through waterlogged roads while people were trudging through water to reach their destinations.

The worst affected areas include Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi Road 27, Karwan Bazar, Khilgaon, Malibagh, Motijheel, Paltan, Kazipara, Rokeya Sarani, Shewrapara, Kazipara and Mirpur-10.

Transportation difficulties put the residents ill at ease. The dearth of public transports, in conjunction with inflated fares over the rain, prompted many residents to take to walking after the rain subsided.
