War on drugs: 75 held in Jatrabari and Mirpur

In the day-long operation, the police, detective police, special armed forces and members from the dog squad took part in the operation

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 75 people in two separate anti-drug drives in Jatrabari and Mirpur area for selling and consuming narcotics. Various drugs including yaba, cannabis recovered from these two places. 

In the day-long operation, the police, detective police, special armed forces and members from the dog squad took part in the operation.

DMP’s Senior Assistant Commissioner (Demra zone) Iftekharul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the operation started from 10am to 1:30 in the of the no14 outfall of Dhalpur city slum area.

At least 56 people including three women, were detained there. 6,000 yaba tablets, 10kg marijuana and 45 bottles phensedyl and 1,435 small bags of heroin were recovered, he added.

In Murpur, Shah Ali police said their raids started from 2pm and ended at 4:30pm. Police arrested 19 people including two women for selling and consuming drugs from Jilpara area of Shah Ali police station area. Four kilograms of marijuana were recovered there while the number of yaba tablets and heroin bags recovered were still being counted during the filing of this report. 

Since May 4, the law enforcers began their anti-drug drive all over Bangladesh following the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Thousands of people have been arrested so far in these operations and many different types of drugs and weapons were recovered.
