A newborn baby girl was rescued from a dustbin near Janata Housing in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area early Saturday.
Cleaning staff of Dhaka South City Corporation found the infant inside a dustbin at around 5:30am and informed police, said Mohammadpur police station SI Faruk Hossain.
"The baby was dumped in the dustbin barely hours after her birth. She didn’t even have any clothes," the SI said.
Police rushed the newborn to Mohammadpur Arman Health Care, from where she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment at 2:15pm, SI Faruk added.
A duty doctor at DMCH confirmed that the girl has been admitted to the pediatric department and was being given necessary medical care.
Her condition was improving, the doctor added.
