'Indefinite strike at educational institutions, if protesters are not released'
Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad Convener Nurul Hoque has said they will go on an indefinite strike at all educational institutions across Bangladesh if the law enforcers do not release detained protesters. He made the statement while addressing a press conference in front of Central Library at Dhaka University in Dhaka on Monday. Nurul said: "If the demonstrators are not released by 12pm, we will go on an indefinite strike from 3pm." Condemning the attack on the female students and the house of vice chancellor, he said: "Our students were not behind the attacks. "People behind the attack were trying to disrupt our demonstration. We demand their exemplary punishment," he said. More than 50 people were injured in violent clashes between police and students of various universities and job seekers at Shahbagh and Dhaka University (DU) areas on Sunday. They demonstrators have been demanding reformation of the existing quota system in government recruitment tests. Several protesters were also detained by police during the sporadic clashes. Meanwhile, the house of Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzman was also vandalized during the clashes.
