BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been admitted to a hospital in Dhaka.
He was taken to Gulshan’s United Hospital from his Uttara residence Monday morning after he complained of chest pain, the party’s press wing staff Shamsuddin Didar told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Mirza Fakhrul fell sick around 10am. The authorities admitted him when he went to the hospital.”
The BNP secretary general was first kept at the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit under the supervision of cardiovascular specialist Prof NAM Momenuzzaman. He was shifted to a cabin around 4:30pm.
BNP Vice-Chairman AZM Zahid Hossain said Fakhrul’s condition was now stable and likely to be released on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice-Chairmen Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Barkatullah Bulu and Abdul Awal Mintoo visited Fakhrul at the hospital.
Fakhrul was getting ready to visit his ailing mother Fatima Amin at another hospital when he fell sick and was hospitalized.
His mother has long been receiving treatment for various old-age complications at the city’s Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.
