United Hospital fined TK20 lakh for use of expired reagent, selling unapproved drugs
In a mobile court drive on Wednesday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) fined Dhaka's United Hospital Tk20 lakh for the use of an expired reagent in its laboratory and for selling unapproved drugs at its pharmacy. RAB 1 conducted the drive at the hospital in Gulshan 2 with RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam leading the mobile court. When contacted, Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam told UNB that they started the drive at 12pm and it continued till 5pm.

During the drive, they found an expired reagent at the hospital's lab as well as unregistered drugs in the pharmacy, he said. “United Hospital has been fined Tk 20 lakh and they have also been given 15 days' time to correct the issues. After the time frame has passed, we will conduct another drive at the hospital," The RAB executive magistrate said. In a press release issued on Wednesday night, United Hospital defended themselves saying the reagents were in fact within their date of expiry, and that the receipts cited by the mobile court were actually from 2014. The hospital also strongly condemned any media outlets alleging that the hospital had been fined for expired reagents before.
