Rizvi: Thanks to Obaidul for revealing Awami League’s misdeeds
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has thanked Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader for “letting people know about their [Awami League’s] misdeeds.” “I want to thank Obaidul Quader for speaking out loud about the misdeeds of his party," the senior BNP leader said during a press conference at BNP's central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka on Sunday. "Obaidul Quader said his party won people’s hearts with their development work, ‘so winning the next polls is nothing but a formality. Awami League has no fear about the election.’ He was right because if the election result is already fixed, they should not have any fear regarding that.” Mentioning Awami League’s lack of interest in competitive election, Rizvi said: "When there is no competition, there is bound to be biased result. That is why he [Obaidul] mentioned the bit about formality. “We are witnessing the different facets of their development work. Many are dying in road accidents every day. Nowadays, we also have air accidents. The train that’s scheduled for 6am, starts in the evening – such is their development." Rizvi further said Awami League knew how to deceive people, and it was their political vision. "They [Awami League leaders] are busy plotting how to hold another election without voters. It seems they have a master plan, and imprisoning Khaleda Zia is a part of it.” Rizvi further said the Awami League was keeping the lion’s share of seats to themselves and giving scraps to other parties. “This is the classic example of one-party rule,” he added. "BNP will not only reject the one-sided election, but will resist this oppression with the help of people. BNP will participate in the election under the leadership of Khaleda Zia. The prime minister will also have to resign in due time.” This article was first published on banglatribune.com
