The theme of the three-day WIL FEST 2018 is ‘Owning & Visibility’
The first ever Women in Leadership Festival (WIL Fest) began in Dhaka on Thursday to mark International Women’s Day.
Organized by Women in Leadership (WIL), an initiative of Bangladesh Brand Forum, the three-day event is taking place at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Freedom Sanitary Napkin is sponsoring the event.
The festival is featuring the Women Leadership Summit, Inspiring Women Awards, Freedom of Choice Exhibition, start-up talks, and several other events.
The theme of WIL Fest 2018 is “Owning & Visibility”. Owning refers to women having self-confidence, and visibility refers to how a woman is perceived by the key units of society – family, partners, colleagues, friends, and society in general.
Dr Anisuzzaman, professor emeritus of Dhaka University, inaugurated the ceremony, while Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and Nazia Andaleeb Preema, president of WIL, were present at the ceremony.
On the first day of the fest, five discussion sessions, four training programs, and four start-up talks were held.
Discussions on various other topics were held focusing on how women can own, develop, and discover themselves and become visible to society.
Keeping in mind the professional growth of women in the corporate industry, a three-day training program is being conducted by Lighthouse Bangladesh, Grow N Excel and BOLD.
WIL Fest is also showcasing start-ups to facilitate ventures by women entrepreneurs or ventures that focus on services for women. The zone is showcasing the concept behind these start-ups and how they empower women in our society. The start-up talks aim to support women who want to learn about the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship.
The fest is also featuring a women-centric art exhibition that tells stories of women’s lives, challenges and success through photography, garments, and visual art. Other sections of the event include a live art workshop, musical performances, and performance acts.
