March 7 Dhaka sees heavy traffic in some areas and empty roads in others
On the morning of the historic March 7 rally, Awami League men arrived in Dhaka on trucks and buses from all over Bangladesh. Perhaps anticipating the crowd, there were less public transports on the roads. Regardless, people have suffered where they have been held up for hours. The Suhrawardy Udyan rally scheduled from 3pm started seeing a gathering audience from 10am. People stood around helplessly in Paltan, Bangabazar, Shahbagh, Doyel Chattar, Nazirabazar, New Market, Science Lab, Matsya Bhabhan, waiting for buses. A rickshawpuller speculated the scant few vehicles on the roads were used to shuttle Awami League activists. Awami League had planned to organize the biggest rally since 1975 for the March 7 to commemorate Unesco's acknowledgment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic speech.
