Biographies of prominent Bangladeshi figures, including two about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be available for sale at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair this year.
This year, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair will showcase biographies written by various Bangladeshi authors, namely Monayem Sarkar, Sirajuddin Ahmed, Shamol Datta, Khandaker Rezaul Karim, Salim Jahangir, Rafikul Islam, and Nurur Rahman Khan among others.
It appears that visitors are excited about the release of so many biographies. Arman Rahman Khan is one such visitor: “Learning about the lives, hardships, and achievements of prominent figures in our history is always a wonderful experience and it serves as motivation for the younger generation,” he said.
Niloy Hossain, an avid book collector who has made it a point to buy books from the fair every year, added: “Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had an interest in learning about the lives of famous people.”
This year’s Amar Ekushey Book Fair is expected to last throughout February and it has already seen a massive turnout just a mere week into its launch and stall owners expect the crowds to get bigger.
Aminul Islam, an attendant at the Islamic Foundation stall, shared his insights and explained: “Biographies are usually among the lesser-selling books. However, this year it seems there is a growing interest in biographies, especially among the younger generation.”
