The Anne Frank travelling exhibition “Anne Frank - a history for today” has been inaugurated at the Liberation War Museum.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Leoni Cuelenaere jointly opened the exhibition on Saturday.
The week-long exhibition and educational project of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam has been jointly organized with the financial help and logistical support of the Dutch Embassy in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Embassy in the Kingdom of Netherlands, the Liberation War Museum, and Counter Foto.
“Hatred, bigotry, violence and intolerance have recently creeped back into our society which has lead to tragedies like the murder of young Bangladeshis in the hands of extremists,” said Dutch Ambassador Leoni Cuelenaere at the ceremony.
“Despite the different historical context between the holocaust and the liberation war, the people had to suffer similar fates. This exhibition is intended to foster the spirit of tolerance towards diversity, as every one of us has a moral duty to fight intolerance,” she added.
“The story of Anne Frank is the story of all wars including the liberation war of 1971”, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
Tariq Ali, member of Board of Trustees of the Liberation War museum said Bangladesh was founded upon the ideals of tolerance of the otherness of the other, at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition is also expected to screen a documentary titled "A Short Life of Anne Frank" dubbed in Bengla, at the museum in Agargaon.
Among others, Bangladesh Ambassador to Netherlands Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Chairman of Counter Foto Khondokar Bazlul Haque, and member of Board of Trustees of the Liberation War Museum Dr Sarwar Ali, were also present at the event.
