Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has visited Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in Dhaka's Labaid Hospital.
Obaidul stayed with her for some time after arriving there around 10am on Friday and enquired about her treatment.
On Thursday afternoon, Ivy was rushed to Labaid from Narayanganj after she collapsed at her office in the Nagar Bhaban. Since then, she is being kept under observation at the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit.
Cardiologist Dr Baren Chakraborty on Friday said: “Ivy's condition is now stable. But she still has to stay in the hospital for a few more days. She has suffered a brain haemorrhage.”
Dr Baren is leading the five-member medical board overseeing Ivy's treatment since Thursday.
However, Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, told reporters: “Selina Hayat Ivy has suffered a minor stroke, but she is out of danger now. But she will have to stay in the hospital for four or five more days.”
When asked, the minister, however, declined to talk about the violent clash between the supporters of Ivy and Awami League MP Shamim Osman at Narayanganj’s Chashara on Tuesday and the investigation into the matter.
On Thursday, Ivy’s brother-in-law Abdul Quadir said the mayor had been complaining about low pressure and chest pain, and had thrown up a couple of times since Wednesday.
Ivy, who had sustained minor injuries during Tuesday’s clash, has been under enormous stress after experiencing the mayhem firsthand, he said.
