Ansar men beat DU students at BSMMU

Update : 10 Jan 2018, 12:32 AM
Members of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force allegedly beat two students of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday, when they went to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to receive treatment. Monowar Hossain Manna and Ashiq Abdullah Apu, two students of mass communication and journalism at DU, are the DU correspondents of Channel I and The Daily Star respectively. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Monowar said he and his friend Ahisq were waiting in a queue for tickets to visit a dermatologist at the BSMMU. “When I tried to talk to a medical staff to know whether tickets are available, one of the Ansar men pulled back me by holding my shirt,” he alleged. “When I asked him why he had pulled back me and hurled expletives at us, he and the other Ansar men started beating us.” With severe injuries in their heads, legs and backs, they were taken to DU Medical Centre for treatment. Witnesses said the aggrieved members of the paramilitary auxiliary force also vandalized some rickshaws and auto rickshaws there. BSMMU Proctor Prof Dr MdHabibur Rahman Dulal assured the victims of taking actions against the accused. “We have already formed an investigation committee in this connection and asked it to submit a report within two weeks.” BSMMU Director Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun said they would scrutinize CCTV footage of the day to identify those involved.
