Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokhon broke down in tears when he remembered his colleague, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq, at an event in Dhaka on Friday.
“This is shocking. Annisul's death is unexpected,” he said while addressing a memorial ceremony for the late DNCC mayor.
“I had a very close relationship with him. Every morning, we used to exchange ideas on how to resolve various issues in Dhaka. I was inspired by his ideas and actions,” Khokon told reporters at his residence in Banani.
“And he drew inspiration from my activities. During the last two and a half years that we worked as mayors, we resolved several problems together. We were able to bring many positive changes.”
Khokon grew emotional as he continued. “Now he is gone. I never imagined that he would leave us so suddenly. I am extremely sorry.”
Annisul, who was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessel wall in the brain, in August, had been undergoing treatment in London, UK before he passed away on Thursday.
