Buet students block road protesting attack
Several hundred students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) on Monday blocked a road near Palashi intersection, protesting an alleged attack on them by some Dhaka University students on Friday, October 27. The protesters blocked the road at about 2pm to press home their 8-point demands, halting vehicular movement in the area for at least two and a half hours. The demands included calls for punishment of the attackers and increased security on the Buet campus. The protesters also demanded making the campus drug-free, restricting the entrance of outsiders and installation of CCTV cameras from Bakshibazar to the Palashi intersection area. Later, at around 4:30pm, the protesting students, who also boycotted classes for two days, withdrew the blockade and said they will continue their demonstrations until the authorities meet their demands. Earlier on Friday night, at least five students were injured in a clash between activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Zahurul Haque Hall unit of Dhaka University (DU) and Titumir Hall unit of Buet, following an altercation over the taking of drugs on Thursday night.
