DU VC’s son hit by speeding car on campus
The son of Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU), was injured when a speeding car hit him in front of Jagannath Hall on Friday afternoon. The victim Ashiq Khan, is an MBBS student at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College. According to eyewitnesses, Ashiq was learning how to ride a motorcycle around 12pm in the afternoon when a speeding car struck him in its path. The impact broke Ashiq’s left leg. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. The police caught up to the car and seized it. Prof Akhtaruzzaman said: “It is not only because my son was injured, but because accidents plague everyone inside the campus. We will arrange an internal road management system for general students. The army cantonment traffic system is a good example to follow.” On Saturday, two more including an old lady and a DU student were injured in road accidents inside the campus. Students claimed accidents are commonplace inside the campus because of reckless drivers who take advantage of the traffic-free roads.
