An eight member delegation from Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) has submitted a memorandum to the UN demanding an end to the violence in Rakhine state of Myanmar.
The delegation, led by IAB presidium member Moulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, proceeded to the UN office after the rest of the IAB mass rally they were a part of was barred from getting any nearer to the location.
The IAB rally, which started from Baitul Mukarram National Mosque for the UN office at around 11:30am, was led by IAB Amir and Pir of Chormonai Sayed Rezaul Karim, reports Bangla Tribune.
Prior to departing Baitul Mukarram, party leaders had delivered speeches condemning the atrocities against the Rohingya in Myanmar.

In his speech, IAB Amir Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim said: "We stand against [Myanmar leader] Aung San Suu Kyi and those who are supporting the mass murder [in Myanmar]. The United Nations is having discussions, making various decisions [in this regard], but those are not being implemented in Myanmar. We do not know the mystery behind this. The recommendations from the Kofi Annan Commission need to be implemented quickly. A peacekeeping force must be deployed in Myanmar with the help of the UN.”
“Those who are killing the Rohingya in Myanmar are not the followers of any religion, they are atheists. These diabolical killings cannot be the work of followers of any religion. Buddhism is a non-violent religion, it regards murder as a major sin,” he added.
Rezaul Karim also demanded that relief programmes at the Rohingya refugee camps in the country be strengthened.
